I have just joined the club and I think I heard Debbie say that we can get discount when we order products from debbieshore.com. How do we do this?
HYSC replied: 3 Jan 24 at 14:20
Don't forget - Debbie is offering a special discount to members this weekend (6-7th Jan) "We're having a member only sale this weekend on the Debbie Shore Sewing website, simply use your regular discount code and 20% will automatically be discounted instead of the usual 10%. This will apply to every item, even sale items, apart from sewing machines and workshops. Your discount code can be used in conjunction with gift vouchers. Visit www.debbieshoresewing.com If you aren't yet a member, there is still time to join, visit www.halfyardsewingclub.com and sign up today! The sale begins this Saturday at 8am and finishes Sunday at 8pm."

Good afternoon everyone, Happy New Year to all. I have a bit of a problem, that is when I use a rotary cutter l, either stright out of the packet they always seem to be blunt, I keep changing the blades, again straight out of packet they are blunt. Question is do I need a lot of pressure or am I just not using it right? Any suggestions please(sorry if spelling mistakes) Helene

Good morning all and Happy New Year. I am about to make some storage cubes (no lid). They will be 12 x 12 x 12 inches. I am not sure which wadding/ bosal/ vlieseline to use. I want them to be stiff enough to stand up and keep their shape. I was looking at ? Vlieseline Decovil Fusible Interlining ? Heavy?. Any thoughts/advice please?
Laura replied: 7 Jan 24 at 17:41
The Vlieseline Heavy is very substantial and can be hard to turn through a turning gap if that is what you intend to do. I have used Bosal for boxes for bathroom storage etc and these hold their shape well ?you don?t want to sew through the Bosal though so cut it 1/4? (or your chosen seam allowance) smaller than your fabric and then sew the fabric using the edge of the Bosal as your guideline. Debbie demonstrates this technique about 5 minutes into this video https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tOyxZi9hp90 You could also use something like H640 interfacing which Debbie demonstrates on a storage cube here https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-IBAEljW-wE Hope this helps.

Hello and A Happy New Year to one and all! I would like to make Christmas Stockings in Velvet fabric and I wondered if there are any particular problems I need to be aware of please. I know it is months away but I take a long time . Also, what type of needles and thread should be used. There seems to be cotton velvet and a stretchy velvet on the market. Any advice much appreciated. Thank you .

Can anyone please tell me where to find Debbie's "introduction" to the quilt 2024 - I was printing it but discovered my printer failed and I just cannot find it anywhere now doh!! It's the pages with the colour blocks labelled Fab1 to Fab10 - My intention is to print it and attach a small piece of fabric to each so I remember what's what. Thank you and happy new year xx

What can I make with bird house panel material besides cushions Thanks
Laura replied: 2 Jan 24 at 00:40
You could make a Tote bag with the panel or perhaps quilt it picking out the main features and make a picture as a wall hanging.

Just a massive thank you to the help I have received as I tried to complete the QAYG - I nearly gave up several times. Biggest project I have ever undertaken. Feeling a little bit proud of myself as I completed the sewing of the binding today. I couldn't sew three years ago!!!
Jill C replied: 1 Jan 24 at 19:10
Looks fabulous x

Oh I have had fun unpicking today on the QAYG, first I sewed some blocks together wrong, now I find as I am almost finished, the last 2 large white triangles are on wrong, so more unpicking is required, never mind I am determined to get it right, it is supposed to be a present for a friend of mine for her birthday fortunately it is not until the end of January so I have time to put all my mistakes right, believe it or not I have enjoyed making this quilt despite the unpicking, perhaps it was not a sewing day!!
Blodwen replied: 24 Dec 23 at 23:32
Daryl I had the same problem as you but I have so enjoyed making it.
