Reading the instructions for constructing row 3 of QAYG why are we cutting 12 x 1.5x12.5 pieces of wadding ,can only see a need for 6,what am I missing ,thanks in advance .
Gwylan replied: 23 Aug 23 at 21:03
Glad I am not the only one confused...I also wonder whether we will need more of the 14.5" sashing strips to create the bottom row of sashing - as with only four surely that will only be enough for the top row of sashing?

Hi, I'm very new to sewing, only about 18 months, maybe slightly longer. I took up sewing to give myself something else to think about whilst my husband was going through his chemo treatment. I have learnt a lot from Debbie's videos. I originally got a very basic machine, couldn't change stitch length or anything like that. Just over a week ago, I took the plunge and bought a much better machine, an elna 570a. However, I'm not sure if there is something wrong with it. I make small items, like phone and glasses cases, cushion covers, that sort of thing (with quite wonky lines), so mainly use a straight stitch. On a lot of videos when using straight stich, it says to use a length of 2.5 or 2.3. The machine won't do this, it's either 2.4 or 2.6. Is that correct? Are all machines different in that respect? Also, no matter how many times I rethread and reinsert the bobbin, the thread nests underneath the fabric. I mainly use cotton and gutterman thread. Am I doing something wrong? I've tried all the remedies suggested on various sites, but it's not worked. I'm thinking that the machine is faulty, as it's also quite noisy. Thanks and sorry for the long post.

Yes that sounds sensible ?at least you can be clear with them that you have tried to resolve the issues. Hope it works out ok.

Just wanted to share a photo of my HYSC Book cover from this video https://www.youtube.com/live/BAXu8SrhHv8?feature=share Finally got round to making it last night. Just using a fat quarter from my stash and a the lining was a rather unattractive fat quarter I've had lying around for ages and glad to have used it now ! Really pleased with my rather snazzy crafting project book.

Hi Tina, I've went a bit popper daft as the kit I bought came with a ridiculous number of poppers in every colour imaginable (except navy which is a bit odd!). Pretty much everything I make now gets a popper or two. It also saved me having to handsew a button on as having spent many teenage years doing cross stitch I now hate hand sewing. If you fancy having a go I had to adapt the process a tiny bit by sewing the flap where the turning gap is on the left hand side rather than the right like in Debbie's video as the right side had the strap for the popper. I've mislaid a pattern for the Everyday Bag. I can't find it in the Half Yard Sewing Club files. Please can someone help me find it again?
Sarah replied: 19 Aug 23 at 19:32
Email the team at half yard and so long as you were a member when this project came out they will email you the link for it. They did this for me. They are very helpful.

Hi, Can anyone tell me what a 'teflon' sheet is and how to use it? I've seen it referenced in a couple of patterns but the instructions weren't very clear. Thanks. Jennifer

Hi Sylvia, I thought that's what it was for but I wasn't entirely sure. I just needed confirmation. Many thanks. Jennifer

Here is my dinosaur made from Daphne Dragon pattern. My placement of spines was off but it?ll do! I used strong thread for legs but think I will remove it and sew in place discretely on the inside. I used a small triangle of bosal foam in the spines to keep them up.

Hi team, I have just joined. My first project was the bamboo handle bag. I was sent the pattern to download, which my husband did for me. My question is, the pattern said to cut the lining to 15 inches, but the main outer fabric 16 inches. Well I'm not a confident sewer, so I cut the lining as instructed. But it is falling short to meet the outer fabric at the top for sewing together, which I thought it would. Help! Have I done something wrong? The instruction for cutting the lining was section 6 of the pattern instructions. What would you advise me to do in this situation? Add a couple of inches to the top to meet the outer fabric, or just let it be a tight fit for the handles? I'm always getting myself in a mess following instructions. Can you please advise me which way to go with this project. Any advise would be welcome, as long as it's not give up know you moron. Lol.
Laura replied: 16 Aug 23 at 21:53
Debbie mentions on this video at about 21 minutes in that there is a mistake on the instructions of the bamboo bag and that the lining should be cut to 16? as well as the outer. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=IMm-0JVtdKk . I think I would join extra piece of lining if it is not too obvious. Hope this helps.
